the expedition

In 2016 Aldo Giaquinto and Vera Kozlovskaia sold out everything they had and converted their Toyota 4×4 into a tiny home on wheels that was nicknamed Toto’ .

By the end of 2020 they had travelled on 5 Continents, visiting 52 Countries, 28 U.S.A. States covering almost 200,000km.  They drove down to  the southernmost drivable point of the world in Ushuaia, Argentina, where the road ends, then made a U-turn and completed the Pan American Hwy by reaching Alaska and the northernmost drivable tip of Canada in Tuktoyaktuk, dipping their feet in the Arctic Ocean.  They travelled in snow and ice as low as -27 ° C (-17F) in Canada to as high as + 50 ° C (+ 122 ° F) in Australia and crossed the imaginary line of the Equator, the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn and the Arctic Circle already twice.

To begin with, their journey started solely for pleasure with the dream of driving around the world overland with their vehicle, bartering the comforts of an house for adventure travel and leading a simple and more sustainable lifestyle compared to the one lived in Europe.

It was not long before they realized that planet Earth and all the living creatures in it were and are still facing the worst crisis in the history of humankind.

They witnessed first-hand the frightening levels of waste, plastic and air pollution, open air landfills and plastic floating Islands, dead Coral reef, exploitation of animals and their habitat, overfishing and over farming, deforestation, destruction of entire ecosystems, people’s lack of care, denial and much more…

The straw that broke the camel’s back was at the beginning of 2019 when they saw someone throwing a big plastic bag full of trash out of the window of his car while driving and no one seemed to notice.

Despite all of this, Aldo and Vera are firmly convinced that there is still hope and that we are still in time to make a change if we all unite and act quickly. We live in a finite planet but people have the means and technology to come together and thrive within the resources provided by Earth, coexisting with animals and Nature for a better and more sustainable future for us all and the future generations to come.

They became more active on their Social Media network and created  Alveto Expedition. The word “ Alveto” comes from the combination of the first two letters of their names:  Aldo, Vera & Toto’.  Starting with Instagram   and facebook  they were posting regular updates of their trip showing how beautiful but at the same time how fragile our world is by often adding content related to Environmental Concerns and Animals Welfare.

They decided that upon the completion of their Expedition, and once returned to Europe, they would set up a Charity organization and realize a series of projects they had in mind in order to put to good use the knowledge accumulated and to do their best to give back as much as possible to Planet Earth, our home.

In March 2020 as they were finalizing the shipment of Toto’ to South Africa to explore their last continent, the world went into a lockdown due to the Pandemic of Covid-19. Major travel restrictions considerably slowed down the expedition and this time was used to set up a YouTube channel, a platform that would give them the opportunity not just to create better contents but also to anticipate the start of their projects.

Alveto Expedition is side by side with Try to Give Back as it represents not just the spark of the idea that created the charity in the first place but it is an ongoing project that directly contributes into funding the organization.

From December 2020 until June 2024 the revenue generated by their YouTube  was entirely used to fund Try to Give Back and its objectives.
